10 Practical steps any company can take.
Everyone is constantly campaigning for companies to now be sustainable, and in
these times sustainability has to be of the utmost importance to every organization.
There is a regular chorus to cut down on your carbon omissions, enhance your biodiversity,
live organically and minimize your carbon footprint. Save water! Save
energy. Save the Earth. What? Why? How?
The what is easy enough. Being “green” means simply that you utilize the earth’s
resources in the manner that benefits the most. That you consider the choices you
make and how they impact the Earth’s health. Knowing that our living on Earth takes
its toll, but trying to soften the blow.
Why be environmentally sustainable though? Who cares? Clients and legislature do,
that is the answer. More and more the client has become wiser and more discerning
in who they choose to do business with. In how sustainable you are. Added to that is
the increased arrival of government legislature across the globe targeted at having
business be more sustainable. There is also the small matter of giving the world a
chance at having a sustainable future, of just saving the world.
If you are reading this and thinking you know all this already. If you know that the
human race cannot continue to simply consume the Earth’s resources, then you can
start to do your bit for tomorrow’s future today. Take a look at these ten easy and
practical steps that can have your company be more sustainable, and help make the
world a better place.
- Be informed. Do a little research into what you can do to minimize your
carbon footprint.
- Recycle, recycle, recycle. Don’t just recycle paper, recycle everything.
- Unplug appliances when you are not using them.
- Turn off the lights when you are not in the room.
- Use natural light when the weather allows.
- Travel sustainably. Try to see how you can travel in such a way that you
reduce your carbon output, for example use carpools instead of driving two
cars to the same place.
- Turn off the geyser. The geyser is one of the biggest sources of energy waste.
The same goes for heaters.
- Drink water from the tap instead of single-use bottled water, because only
about 20% of those bottles are recycled properly. If you have fears over the
quality of the tap water, fit a filter.
- Replace your conventional lightbulbs with “green” ones.
- Be a “green” consumer.
